Call for Papers.pdf

We are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the conference “The ‘Right to [World] Heritage”, which will provide a platform for students, alumni and experts from the heritage field to exchange knowledge and experience, as well as an opportunity to develop short and long-time cooperations.

The conference is organized by the International Association of World Heritage Professionals e.V. (IAWHP e.V.) together with the Faculty for Environmental Studies and Process Engineering of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. Financial support is provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Aim

The conference “The Right to [World] Heritage” aims to find innovative solutions to pressing questions concerning [World] Heritage as a human right in the context of existing international agreements and conventions. Current laws shall be discussed with the aim to begin new initiatives with a focus on increasing the inclusion of civil society as well as the use of new information technologies.

The role of [World] Heritage in the struggle between different modern political systems is of central importance to this conference. Amongst other issues, the significance of the properties listed by UNESCO for democracy and its promotion around the world will be analysed.  This includes a discussion about whether the status of a World Heritage property should be dependent on its political background. Furthermore, the issues facing heritage in areas of conflict and the heritage of minorities, which is often particularly endangered and needs more effective protection, will be highlighted.

Target participants

The conference should provide a platform for:

  • Researchers and practitioners of heritage management at local, national and international levels to exchange ideas and experiences;
  • Alumni and students to engage in network building and knowledge transfer;
  • the IAWHP e.V., current students and  heritage experts to develop long term collaboration
